Her geometry
In making this solo, we attempted to apply principles of cubism to dance, interested in the shaping and torque of the body as the dancer tries to reveal multiple facings and perspectives at once. Her Geometry draws particularly from Pablo Picasso's 1907 painting, Les Desmoiselles d'Avignon, and works also to challenge and deny the gaze, recovering some agency of the figure.
Carrie Hanson
In its 21st season, The Seldoms creates multimedia performance charged by bold, exacting physicality and the belief that dance can inspire thinking and action. Under the direction of Carrie Hanson, the company designs expansive productions with practitioners of visual arts, theater, sound, and fashion, as well as scientists and historians. Based in Chicago, The Seldoms has toured extensively nationally and to Russia, Taiwan, Scotland, and Canada. Performer Haley Marcin joined the ensemble in 2021, and has contributed to five projects. She leads company training and teaches extensively in the Chicago area.
