Ethan Barbee

I began my training at Northwood High School, CityDance at Strathmore, and the Maryland Youth Ballet until moving to Tampa, FL to attend the University of South Florida. While at USF, I performed in the works of Alonzo King, Maurice Causey, Kara Davis, Jeanne Travers, Paula Nuñez, Bliss Kohlmyer, Michael Foley and Andrew Carroll. I received my BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography and a minor in mathematics in 2017. I have had the opportunities to participate and perform in the Beijing Normal University International Creative Dance Seminar in Beijing, China and work with European choreographers Maurice Causey, Clint Lutz, Nathalie Pubellier, Julien Desplantez, Kévin Quinaou, Wanjiru Kamuyu, Christine Gérard, and Nadine Beaulieu during the USF Dance in Paris Semester Program. I am currently dancing with the Collective Soles Dance Company under the direction of Alex Jones and have performed with Next Generation Ballet in The Nutcracker at the Straz Center in FL and the Singular Sensations Musical Theater Ensemble at the Kennedy Center in DC.

My choreography training began at the University of South Florida with the completion of a four semester-long choreography series focusing on solo-work, group-work, videography, site specific, and text use. During the Semester in Paris Spring 2016 program, I worked with choreographers Maurice Causey, Nathalie Pubellier, Christine Gérard, and Nadine Beaulieu to create one-minute choreography projects. I have created, as the culminating projects for the BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography, a group piece and a solo with the dance students at USF under the guidance of Bliss Kohlmyer and Andee Scott. I am currently choreographing for the University of Tampa, Collective Soles Dance Company, Expressions Academy of Dance, New Tampa Dance Theater, and Tampa City Ballet.
