Carmen Craft

Youth Concert Choreographer

Carmen Craft has been dancing since the age of three and with Mt. Zion School of Performing Arts since the age of eight.  Her extensive training includes studying with Ballet Magnificat, Marygrove College, Broadway Dance Center, Steps on Broadway and Alvin Ailey in New York City.  She has also received intensive training with internationally renowned ballet master and choreographer Iacob Lascu, in addition to taking classes taught by the legendary David Howard, Zena Rommett, Nancy Bielski, Christina Kammuller, Ginger Cox, Slam, Brice Mousset, Chris Hale, Tracie Stanfield, Michelle Barber, Ellenore Scott and Luam.
 

Her performance background includes community events with the Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Tigers, Cobo Hall, Dream Cruise, Detroit Dance Race, Detroit Dance City Festival, Michigan Dance Festival, Oakland Dance Festival, Brighton Dance Festival, Ann Arbor Art Fair, Project Dance and Fueled & Aflame Christian Dance Company in Ohio.  She has danced internationally in El Salvador as well as Lima, Peru with the missions group from Mt. Zion and has been a featured soloist/lead in performances of The NutcrackerCoppelia, and The Passion of Mary.
 

Carmen was a founding member of the award winning MZSPA competition team, where she currently instructs and choreographs for the competition jazz/contemporary groups.  Her works have received high scoring honors, overall placements and judges choice awards.  Saudade, her most recent contemporary piece, was accepted into the Youth Dance Race through ArtLabJ in Detroit and was further chosen for the 17th Annual Detroit Dance Race “Best of 2015-2016” in June.  Carmen has guest choreographed for X2 (a youth pre-professional dance program under the directorship of Pure Existence Dance Company) and has had the pleasure of sharing her artistry through Project Dance Detroit. She has also choreographed a full-length production of The Sound of Musicthrough Oakland Homeschool Music Incorporated.  Additionally, she has enjoyed teaching Zumba and currently instructs Barre Intensity at Center Stage in Royal Oak and Red Spring Pilates in West Bloomfield.
 

Carmen has experienced various opportunities with film work, including music videos, commercials and promos.  She is a graduate of Oakland University with a bachelor’s degree in Communication and is a proud member of Pure Existence
